You're a Virtual Assistant and you're advising clients about how to maximize their use of social media... but you don't have a Twitter account nor a Facebook fan page. Really?
"Houston, we have a problem."
Do you know how many folks on Twitter and Facebook call themselves social media gurus? I don't - I'd never dream of it, despite being ranked at Twitter Grader as one of the top 100 women on Twitter.
Why? Because I might not be doing it right - and if you state you're an expert yet you don't have a Twitter or Facebook account or your accounts are chock full of blatant self-promotion and no engagement then you're doing it wrong!
Marketing is, was and always will be about WIIFM (What's In It for Me) and if you don't provide any true value in the social network sphere but only tout your expertise while the actual facts negate your claims, then you shouldn't be surprised if you're not taken seriously.
Stop saying you're a guru or an expert - start building real relationships and engage with people and you'll find you won't have to blatantly self promote - your fans and colleagues will do it for you.
